View Full Version : Saturation point of thin leg stators.

Hi Guys, I've found some stators with very thin legs. These would be easy to wind with a lot of copper but would that be redundant, if the thin laminations saturate quicker than the heavier?

Can you post a photo with some measurements. I can look up some data on the permeability of typical stator iron and see how many amp turns per square millimeter it takes to saturate one of our little stators.

Hi Lucien, Thank's for offering some help. Below is what the stators look like. A guestimate would be OK.
The volume of the stator is .078 sq. in. Surface area 3.0419 and a mass of 7.3 grams.
At least tha's if I have it right.

Did you draw this yourself? If so, what 3D CAD program are you using?

I currently have a 2-D CAD program, and would like to start rendering things in 3-D to better visualize them.

Hi Lucien, Yep, All by myself. See, and you probably thought I was just another pretty face. Actually I drew the stator in AutoCAD, then transfered it to a program called Solid Works. I'll admit not knowing much about rendering, but SW simply allows me to extrude a profile like this to any length. 3D is pretty easy in this package. The drawing project took me only about fifteen minutes. I messed around longer than that getting the pictures ready to post. The easier something is to do is directly propottional, in most cases, to the cost of the software. SW might knock your socks off cost wise. Being a person of education you might somehow be able to get it through a school.

I can thoroughly recommend Rhino3D for 3D drawing. It supports a large amount of file formats and is the most easy 3D package I know.

nice drawing, I've been using audotesk inventor and been loving it. the best part is to animate the motor after you draw it :)
