Thought that might catch your eye. I have been changing my mind about pole magnet configurations quit a bit and trying to optimize performance. I found that by putting the rotor in a film can or something just a hair bigger than the rotor, and filling it over the top of the magnets with CA remover lets you get the magnets loose. Sometimes it takes several hours, but at least you have magnets to use again. OH, I don't fill the spaces with anything until I'm satisfied.
HERE IS MY QUESTION: Is there any generic substitute for CA remover or anything else that might work, without paying about $2.00 an ounce. Or is there some other way to solve the problem of getting the magnets loose. Don't say heat em up. Did that once, trying to get a flux ring off. Dumb. Dumb, Dumb. Everyone is right. The magnets go absolutly dead.

Naw, It can't be that easy, Can it? Ill try it next time.
Thanks
Dav,
Acetone will break down superglue (CA), Nail polish remover is basicly acetone with a oil added to it. (Water will also debond a CA joint over a long period of time!).

OOps sorry I meant acetone!

Man, If you guys were beutiful, young, rich, women, with a husband who died, but owned a fortune in model airplane stuff, I'd kiss ya.
On your advice, I tried something. There has to be something wrong with this because it worked to easy. I took my flux ring and put it in a propylene film can with enogh M.E.K. to cover the magnets. I like to use M.E.K instead of acetone becaus it dosen't evaporate as quick. At any rate. I took the film can and placed it in an ultrasoning cleaner with water in it. I could actually see the bubbles from the cavitation coming up from behind the magnets. In about 10 minutes I was able to start pushing the magnest loose. I left the ring in the can for a while extra to melt the rest of the goop.
Thanks.

Careful with MEK (Methyl Ethyl Keton) as it will melt your eyes if it gets in contact with them! Always wair eye protection when handling this kind of stuff.

Not sure about this, it will burn your eyes (dry them out like formaldehyde)
The most dangerous one is MEK-P (peroxide) Synthetic catalist, it will blind you vitually on contact!

Always wair eye protection when handling this kind of stuff. Not to mention this stuff is readily absorbed through the skin and will cook your liver. fumes are absorbed in lungs also. Wear a space suit around that stuff.

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the warnings. This stuff sits right next to the Acetone on the hardware shelf with the same warnings as Acetone. I'm glad you enlightened me to the fact that it might be more dangerous. I always use a measure of caution when using flameables and actually ran that test in the garage. I've used this stuff for a long time. No wonder my liver enzimes ar a little off. Course that could be from my earlier mercury poisoning and alcohol drinking too. Wow: add in grinding neodium magnets. Speaking of flameables: I just recently cooked my first lithium battery. Yep: it would cause a fire.

wow, maybe you should slow down on the science experiments in the lab. you sound dangerous!

I know, My neighbors think that I will blow up Akron some day. My Grandfather, slightly German used to say, "Vee grow to soon alt und to late shcmart"
Actually I was wondering if something else might also work. What would be the read on Toluene? If thats the way you spell it.

you can read a chart here, and judge for yourself.

I'd like to point out that toluene and MEK have the same PEL (permissible exposure limit expressed in PPM for an 8hr shift) of 200 Acetone is 5 times higher. So it's better.mention acetone to an industrial hygenist and he'l get very concerned about the usage, storage, and PPE. Mention toluene and MEK and his freq will get hit and he'll go nuts! I am very respectfull of these solvents and never use them when something else will work. use plenty of ventilation. Of the 3 mentioned I much prefer acetone for your usage. the parts will dry quickly and then can be handled. I'd recommend the MSDS but according to them you need PPE to handle distilled water in this litigous world.
